Following an illness of six years with the infirmities of age Robert H. Jackson, retired carpenter and contractor and one of the most widely known residents of the city died at the home of his brother, David Jackson, 308 W. Market St, at two this morning. Mr. Jackson has been unable to work for a number of years and during that time he has made his home with his brother. The deceased was born in this state May 15, 1843, and was past 70 at death. He was never married. Besides the brother at whose home he died, Mr. Jackson is survived by one other brother, Henry H. Jackson of Danville, Ill. Funeral services will be held from the home where death occurred at two Friday afternoon. The services will be in charge of Rev. JH Oliphant, pastor of the primitive Baptist Church and Rev. WH Fertich, pastor of Trinity ME Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Jackson had a large number of friends in this city and throughout the county. Of a kindly, charitable disposition, he was the kind of man that easily makes friends. Throughout his long illness he was at all times a patient sufferer and he displayed remarkable fortitude and cheerfulness during the time he was confined to his bed. During the past few days his condition had gradually become weaker and hope for his recovery was given up several days ago. - kbz
